Bishop Peter concelebrates with His Holiness Patriarch Irinej

Sunday, November 27th, Bishop Peter was invited by His Grace, Bishop Longin, to participate in celebrating the patronal feast of St Stevan of Decani Serbian Orthodox Church, on Leland Avenue in Chicago, Illinois.  The Divine Liturgy was presided by His Holiness, Patriarch Irinej.  Besides the two bishops, concelebrants included two priests, two deacons, and a full staff of altar servers.  The mixed choir sang beautifully, mainly featuring the musical compositions of Stevan Mokranjac.

In his homily, the Patriarch greeted the parishioners with their parish feast and urged them to remain steadfast in their faith.  Among other things, the primate of the Serbian Church reminded his flock that throughout the centuries, Holy Orthodoxy had always supported, guided, and eventually saved from destruction and extermination the Serbian people in their most difficult times.  Likewise, His Holiness called upon the Serbs living in America to preserve their Serbian language and traditions.

After the Liturgy, a festive meal was hosted by the parish in the church hall, followed by folk dances performed by the children and youth from the congregation.  After 4pm, His Holiness departed back to St Sava Monastery in Libertyville.
