It was with a feeling of deep sorrow that I received the news of the death of Archbishop Peter of Chicago and Mid-America, one of the most senior hierarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad. I offer you all my sincere condolences.

Having decided from a young age to dedicate himself to serving the Lord, the future Archbishop Peter followed his chosen path with deep faith and trust in God's Providence. He was an assistant to St. John (Maximovich) and had the fortunate opportunity to learn many Christian virtues from him.

The ever-memorable worker of the Lord's garden performed various church obediences, and at a mature age he took monastic vows and was subsequently called to high episcopal service.

More than 20 years of his archpastoral labors were connected with the Chicago and Mid-American Diocese. The late bishop zealously built up parish life in the diocese and did much to develop all aspects of diocesan activity. Possessing great spiritual and life experience, Archbishop Peter cared deeply for the education of future generations of clergy. All who knew the bishop clearly saw in him not only a zealous hierarch, but also a caring and loving father.

May the all-gracious Lord give rest to the soul of His newly departed faithful servant in the dwellings of the righteous, where there is neither sickness, nor sorrow, nor sighing, but life everlasting. And may He grant him an eternal and blessed memory.
