Calling for the attention of the faithful to our 'giving campaign' at Holy Trinity Orthodox Seminary, in preparation for our annual plate collection, which takes place each year on the Sunday closest to the Feast of the Three Hierarchs (1-31/2-12), which will take place this year the day before the actual feast on Sunday, 1-30/2-11-2018.
This plate collection has been taking place annually within the Russian Church Abroad for many decades now, but this year, there is an added incentive to support our beloved seminary. In previous years, all the monies that were collected in our parishes on that day were passed along to support the seminary; our mission, our students and our faculty. For the past several years (since 2015), HTOS has also been launching an on-line appeal on what has become known nationally in the US as 'Giving Tuesday'; the Tuesday that falls after Thanksgiving, wherein people are encouraged to donate to the non-profit organization of their choice. HTOS has enjoyed some measure of success with this effort.
This year, a generous donor has once again agreed to match our donations; however this year it is in the form of funding up to 13 scholarships for the BTh program (at $7K each), thereby creating for us a goal of $91,000. In addition, the commitment did not end on Giving Tuesday itself, but was extended, so as to enable us to reach more potential benefactors with the news that every dollar you donate to HTOS through Sunday, 1-30/2-11 will be doubled. To date, we have raised over $71,000, and as such, we are over 75% of the way to our goal!
There are a number of exciting developments taking place at HTOS such as the hiring of several new, well credentialed faculty, including our new dean, V. Rev. Alexander F.C. Webster, PhD, and in conjunction with that, application was made in Mid November to the NY Board of Education for approval to offer the degree of Master of Divinity (MDiv). If, God willing, this is approved in the coming weeks, a window of opportunity for unprecedented growth will open up at the seminary.
Many of you may have previously learned about this campaign through social media, and have already supported this effort, and to you, we express our heartfelt gratitude. For those who are not on social media, and/or were previously unaware of this offer to double your contribution to the seminary, or have not yet had the chance to donate, the opportunity remains.
May the Good Lord bless you for your willingness to support Holy Trinity Orthodox Seminary, and assisting us in furthering our mission of instructing in 'Traditional Orthodoxy for the 21st Century'.
