Patronal Feast in St. Loius

On January 13th, Archbishop Peter arrived in St. Louis, MO, to celebrate the patronal feast of the temple of St. Basil the Great. Archbishop Peter attended and presided over the hierarchical vigil on the 13th and, on the following day, celebrated the Divine Liturgy of St. Basil the Great. It should be noted that, although a winter storm had just struck much of the Midwest the day before, including Chicago and St. Louis, Archbishop Peter, nevertheless, braving the ice and the snow, made the journey to St. Louis. Such a deed speaks to the genuine love and paternal care with which Archbishop Peter ministers to the sheep entrusted to him. Although the feast of St. Basil occurred on a Monday, and, as mentioned, in the midst of bad weather, some 55 parishioners were in attendance to ensure that Holy Hierarch Basil the Great was properly honored and to greet their ruling hierarch. Concelebrating with Archbishop Peter were Archimandrite Seraphim (Holy Cross Hermitage in West Virginia), Archpriest Martin Swanson (Rector of St. Basil’s Church), Priest Sergii Alekseev (St. Basil’s Church), Priest Michael Volzhansky (Holy Archangels Monastery in House Springs, MO), Protodeacon Jeremiah Davis (Christ the Saviour Church in Wayne, WV) and Deacon Ephraim Galloway (St Basil’s Church). At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, a large meal was served, during which Archbishop Peter regaled those present with personal stories, many of which involved Holy Hierarch John of Shanghai and San Francisco, the Wonderworker, and kindly and patiently answered all questions, pertaining to a number of topics, posed from a flock eager to learn from their shepherd.
