Archbishop Peter visits Church of St. John of Shanghai & San Francisco being Constructed in Vyshniya

On Saturday, May 19/June 1, 2019 His Eminence, Archbishop Peter of Chicago & Mid-America, accompanied Bishop Sylvester of Belogorod to the Ascension parish in his Vicarate (in the city of Vyshniya) where a church in honor of St. John of Shanghai & San Francisco is being built. The parish averages an attendance of 750 people per Sunday and holds evening services and Divine Liturgy each day. The St. John Church will be the fourth altar of the parish and is slated to be completed by the fall of 2020.

Upon arrival, Archbishop Peter and Bishop Sylvester served a short moleben to St. John. Archbishop Peter then shared some of his recollections of his time as the cell keeper of St. John with the gathered faithful and clergy. Archbishop Peter was then taken on a tour of the churches of the parish. Following the official activities the parish offered the hierarchs and those accompanying them a quiet and pleasant lunch.

After the visit to the Ascension parish Archbishop Peter returned to the Kiev Caves monastery and participated in the All Night Vigil at the Dormition Cathedral at which His Beatitude, Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine officiated.
