Archbishop Peter Celebrates the Dormition of the Theotokos at the Dormition Cathedral

On Sunday evening, August 27 and Monday morning, August 28 His Eminence Archbishop Peter celebrated the great feast of the Dormition of the Theotokos at the historic cathedral named after this feast in Ferndale, Michigan. The cathedral celebrated its 95th anniversary on this day, and was honored to have Archbishop Peter lead the Divine Services.

The cathedral was the ruling cathedral of the small Diocese of Detroit & Flint that, following the repose of Archbishop Ieronim in 1957, was merged with the Diocese of Chicago & Cleveland, which later became the Diocese of Chicago & Detroit, and which is today the Diocese of Chicago & Mid-America.

Joining Vladyka at the Divine Services for the feast were:

Archpriest Gregory Joyce, Dean of Michigan Parishes

Priest Michael Volzhanskii, Rector of the Dormition Cathedral

Priest Colin Bower, Cleric of St. Vladimir Parish in Ann Arbor, Michigan

Priest Dmitri Mihaliov, Cleric of St. Vladimir Parish in Ann Arbor, Michigan

Protodeacon Ioann Feloniuk, Cleric of Dormition Cathedral in Ferndale, Michigan

Deacon Dmitriy Kashchenko, Cleric of St. Vladimir Parish

At the small entrance at the Divine Liturgy on the feast itself the cathedral’s long-serving Deacon Ioann Feloniuk was raised to the dignity of Protodeacon by Archbishop Peter.

Following the Divine Liturgy, according to the established tradition, a cross procession was held around the cathedral. Upon returning to the temple Gramotas were awarded to Mrs. Anna Jeromsky, Mrs. Larissa Stukalich, Mrs. Photinia Brand, and Mr. Michael Pastuhov. Many years were then intoned for the newly-appointed Rector of the parish, Priest Michael Volzhanskii, those who had received awards, the hierarchs of the church, and all those who help Fr. Michael in his duties at the cathedral.
